For this reason all pages on the web site must be maintained with close attention being paid to it's level of accessibiltiy.
Web authors updating SCS website must following this set of guidelines:

  • An accessible site does not mean a text only equivalent.
  • The web page must meet a the HTML 4.01 web standard. Refer to the examples shown with reference links included.
  • Cascading Style Sheets must be used for presentation.
  • The web site should be tested in the following browsers (Use more if available, including old versions).
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer (Mac & PC).
    • FireFox
    • Opera.
    • Mozilla.
    • Safari.

  • Ensure that the page(s) meet the minium requirement of web accessibility standards:
  • Use automated validation tools to ensure you page meets these standards.
    • Check the page using Cynthia Say (http://www.cynthiasays.com/fulloptions.asp?), or a similar validator.
    • Automated tools have limitations. You must perform a manual check of your work.
    • Preview the page in a text-only browser (e.g. Lynx).
    • Where possible state on each page it's level of compliance.
    • Ideally WCAG Double A standards should be met.
  • Ensure that any equivalents used for scripts, images, frames, etc are as informative and useful as the original content. For example:
    • For <noframe> content do not use "Your browser does not support frames".
    • Links to external web sites such as clients' should be clearly labeled and mention any accessibility features (if any) available on that site.
    • Where javascript was used to protect email addresses use an accessible contact form in it's place.

These guidelines will be reviewed on a 6 month basis and may change to reflect changes in any current accessibility guidelines. The minimum level of compliance may also change at a future date
